Situada en las orillas del río Moldava, tiene aproximadamente 1,2 millones de habitantes, lo que convierte a la capital de la Republica Checa, en la ciudad más poblada de ese país. El área metropolitana de Praga cuenta con una población de 1,9 millones de habitantes. Desde 1992 el casco histórico de la ciudad es Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Praga se ha desarrollado desde el siglo IX, conviertiéndose en una de las capitales más importantes de Europa en los siglos XVIII y XIX. Por sus características Praga es considerada como una ciudad global de clase gamma, a la altura de Ámsterdam o Washington y superando a grandes urbes como Roma, Estocolmo y Pekín. Praga también es conocida como "la ciudad de las cien cúpulas", "la ciudad dorada", "París de los años 20 en los años 90", "la madre de todas las ciudades" y "el corazón de Europa".
