We just got this in! It's a sweet new knife from Kershaw. Here are the specs on it: Titanium frame lock knife with a carbon fiber overlay on front scale. It also features the KVT (Kershaw Velocity Technology) opening system for extremely smooth manual opening. The Tilt has ball bearings at its pivot point. Pull back on the ambidextrous blade protrusion, the ball bearings rotate, and the blade glides out of the handle quickly and easily. Is an axe like the Cold Steel Trail Boss really versatile enough that one could actually carve with it? Seems unlikely, but perhaps it's just a matter of preparation and know-how. If you've got neither of those, however, a sharp, smaller knife is certainly up to the task. Either way, if an axe is coming along, I think a good small knife should always come too - so the fine work can be done with the fine tool, and the heavy work can be done with the heavy one.
