Танк "Пантера" можно без преувеличения считать самым известным германским танком Второй Мировой войны. Составить ему конкуренцию по популярности может только другой танк - "Тигр". С января 1943 по апрель 1945 года заводы фирм MAN, Daimler-Benz и Henschel выпустили около 6 тысяч этих машин. Выпускался в следующих серийных модификациях: Pz. VD, Pz. VG, Pz. VA. Боевым крещением "Пантеры" стала операция "Цитадель" (на Курской дуге). Позже "Пантеры" активно использовались на Восточном фронте, в Италии и на Западном фронте. По массовости это был второй германский танк, ставший на заключительном этапе войны главным и серьезнейшим противником танков всех стран антигитлеровской коалиции. На 10 апреля 1945 года в боевых частях насчитывалось 627 танков "Пантера". На базе танка строились самоходно-артиллерийские установки, ремонтно-эвакуационные машины, командирские танки и машины передовых артиллерийских наблюдателей.
